Week 4

The found both articles with Purdue Cal's Primo but the first one the link was broken and I had to search it with Google Scholar.

The first article entitled "Pirates and 26 other sequels this year: Are Hollywood execs ruining movies?" was written by Roger Ebert. It is about how easy it is for Hollywood to green light a new sequel but how hard it is to get a new film green lit. Ebert also goes on to talk about that there are 26 sequels coming out this year and that most of the better directors are going to do TV because there really aren't any adult movies any more. He adds more by quoting director Steven Soderbergh that sent him an email "The quality of theatrically released films has been dropping so precipitously in recent years that the Academy Awards are no longer a fair gauge of audiovisual entertainment. Several decades ago audiences could expect a film such as The Social Network every week; now we are lucky to have one or two a year. Add to this the fact serious dramas have more or less migrated to television, and it's clear that the Oscars have become progressively less relevant. Last year arguably the best male performance of the year (Al Pacino in You Don't Know Jack) was not eligible for the Oscars."

In my opinion I agree. There have been fewer and fewer really good movies and an increase in movies that are just made to rake in money.

The second article which is entitled Hollywood Reboots which is written by Cade Metz is about how reboots are good because Hollywood can make older movie look so much better using current technology. It also mentions that future films will also look great with the advancement in computers and cameras.

On this opinion I am so so. While I agree that we can make movies look so much better with current technology it ruins some of the charm of the original.

  1. Hi Jesse,

I think you have two sources, but I'd like to see you analyze them a bit more thoroughly. Will you be able to use these sources within your web text? You should look for the credibility, currency, authority, and objectivity. Basically, you need to see if these sources will add (or take away from) your piece.

In terms of the APA citations, you should double-check how to set up the dates, issues, and volume numbers. If you need help with the citations, please either ask me or use the APA style guide linked on my page.

Do you have any specific questions you want to cover during our conference?

  2. I looked it all of it up but I didn't put it in the post.

When I did the APA for PC Magazine the issue and volume number was strange and I didn't really understand how to put it. I pretty much used the OWL site for APA.
